9 Italian culinary rules

Tourists in Italy often misbehave in the culinary field. A nutrition institute in Parma has therefore drawn up a list of Italian eating rules. Read them through to avoid culinary blunders.

1. Do not drink cappuccino during dinner. Real Italians only drink this coffee for breakfast. A good choice for dinner is espresso.

2. Risotto and pasta are not intended as side dishes.

3. Do not add oil to the pasta water. You only make all additions after the pasta has been cooked.

4. Do not pour ketchup on your pasta, it is considered a culinary sin.

5. Spaghetti Bolognese does not officially exist. The sauce should be served with tagliatelle. The institute does admit that the dish is normally served in large parts of Italy.

6. Pasta with chicken is very unusual in Italy.

7. The discoverer of Caesar salad was an Italian, but the salad is unknown in Italy.

8. Red and white checkered tablecloths are not typically Italian.

9. Respect traditions:share Italian food with the people you love.
