The difference between baking soda and baking powder

Baking soda and baking powder are the same, right? Not so, we clear up the misunderstandings.

What is baking soda? Baking soda is a leavening agent that, for example, ensures that your cake comes out of the oven nice and airy. To make your cake fluffy, baking soda creates small air bubbles in your batter. The bubbles only form when baking soda comes into contact with an acid. For example, an acid can be tartar, citric acid or apple cider vinegar.

Other names for baking soda are baking soda, baking soda, sodium bicarbonate, E500, NaHCO3.

Baking powder is something else
Baking powder is not the same as baking soda. Baking powder is sodium bicarbonate combined with an acid.
