To sow in April:Cucamelon

The Cucamelon looks like a watermelon, but the size of a grape. The name is a combination of cucumber and melon.

Cucamelon is widely eaten in Mexico, among other places. You never see this fruit at the supermarket in the Netherlands, but the good news is that you can grow them yourself. The seeds of the cucamelon are for sale online. Sow them in a pot at the end of April. You can transplant it at the end of May. Cucamelon grows on a climbing plant, so make sure you have enough space.

How do you eat cucamelon? The taste is similar to cucumber with a hint of lime. You can eat the fresh cucamelon on its own, in a salad or stick it on a skewer for a cocktail.
