Shaima:The nicest (vegan) breakfast spots in Bali

Bali; in the short time you are there you want to see all the beauty that the island has to offer, and that's where Shaima comes in.

Every week she shares her Bali tips, so that you don't have to search for nice places unnecessarily. This week:the best (vegan) places to have breakfast.

Green Guru, Canggu – 'For the most original smoothie bowls'

Every restaurant that serves breakfast has smoothie bowls on the menu. One creation is even more beautiful than the other. Green Guru goes one step further. This restaurant focuses only on smoothie bowls. Not only the creation of the food is beautiful, but what the smoothie is presented in is on a whole different level. Your food does not come in a bowl, but almost in half a tree trunk. Original, instagram-worthy, incredibly flavorful and also not expensive. The prices include tax, so no surprises at checkout. I wanted to swap my pine nuts for peanut butter and this was no problem either.

The Seeds of life, Ubud – 'Must try for non-vegans!'

Raw, vegan and food porn, are the words that best describe The Seed of Life. Even my non-vegan friends think this restaurant is a reason to eat vegan more often. The portions are huge, I'm not exaggerating. Take the SOL jar, with chia seeds, mixed fruit, smoothie, a whole (homemade) Muesli bar and dried banana. And then I haven't said anything about the cocoa nibs and coconut as a topping, to die for! The only drawback I can think of is that there is an additional 10% tax and 5% service costs, but that is the case in more places. And while you're at SOL, check out all the goodies, drool!

Alkaline, Canggu -‘May your food be your medicine’

This restaurant is mostly raw, vegan (sorry not sorry for the non-vegans among us), and really has way too many hungry options on the menu. Cookies, cinnamon rolls, raw treats, ice cream, croissants with chocolate, crackers, you name it. Of course also regular breakfast options, but my heart just beats faster with recipes that are vegan. For just over a euro you end up in heaven. And without added sugars and butter. Fancy a healthy snack? Please visit Alkaline.

Captain Coconuts, Gili Air – 'Nom Nom Nom'

On Gili Air, an island near Lombok, I stayed with Captain Coconuts (recommended!). Here you can stay in a separate room, but you also have shared rooms in the open air, with floating beds and their own fan. I fell in love with this stay and instead of one night I stayed here for five nights. On top of the beautiful location and the wonderful stay, breakfast was also included. Was it tasty? Maybe you can tell me next time when you visit yourself?

Crate Cafe, Canggu – 'Hipster Gathering Point'

When I first walked past Crate, I had to laugh. “Why would you stand in line for your food so long and not all those people just go elsewhere?” Well, I knew. I was swept along by a friend who insisted on going there. Apparently Crate Cafe is cheap, you get large portions and the food is also very tasty. "That's why everyone is standing in line for such a long time," I thought. I was told you just need to know when it's quiet. Without having to wait, I ordered a smoothie bowl, and another time the chia pudding (because yes, I went back!). The dishes also have nice names. (Go fruit yourself &Why so cereal) Super fast WiFi attracts many digital nomads, so it fills up pretty quickly during breakfast. Experiment with the times and you'll be fine! Are you not going to Bali for the time being? These are 4 healthy ideas that you can make yourself at home.

Zest, Ubud – “Pizza, healthy?”

Zest is known for healthy variations on dishes that are often labeled as unhealthy. For example, a pizza base is made from cassava flour, coconut flour and cashew milk. Think of the toppings of jackfruit, papaya and cashew cheese. All ingredients  are local and fresh, and all pizzas are gluten-free too! I know pizza isn't a breakfast dish, but it's never too early for pizza.
