Gin Tonic:we know the preparation secret that makes it better!

Gin and tonic is an essential cocktail. Its little extra:it is refreshing and low in calories – compared to other alcoholic mixtures, because one glass is still equivalent to 140 kcal on average. Its big plus:its recipe is relatively simple and quick to make, just mix a dose of gin with a Schweppes-type Tonic, add ice cubes and possibly a slice of lemon. And voila ? Not really, according to David T. Smith who works for the famous British gin brand Gordon's. If nothing is wrong with the composition of the cocktail itself, it is the time between the end of the preparation and the tasting that is the problem.

Ice, the key element

The expert recommends not to drink your glass right away but to wait for the ice cubes to dilute the alcohol and the Tonic in order to reveal more subtle notes. "The ice that begins to melt refreshes the drink and also helps to harmoniously combine all the flavors present". One or two minutes of waiting is enough, you have to be careful not to “ruin” the mixture by making the vegetal notes disappear. Tony Conigliaro who works for Schweppes insists on the importance of a good quantity of freshly made ice cream because the cooler the glass, the more flavor it will have. As for the “garnish”, the traditional lemon and lime are fine, but those who want a change can opt for mint leaves or ginger. It is noted… and always in moderation!
