13 delicious fruits and vegetables to grill this summer

Grilled burgers and sausages are summer-ish, but you can use the barbecue for much more than just meat. Roasting adds a smoky twist to seasonal produce — zucchini, asparagus, and even fruits like peaches. Read on for 13 vegetables and fruits that are fantastic for grilling.

1. Eggplant When grilled, eggplant becomes crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. Cut your eggplant into thin slices and put some olive oil on it. Grill it for 6 minutes per side or until the aubergine is soft.

2. Peaches
Grilling peaches brings out their natural sweetness. Cut them in half, remove the pit, and place them face down on a preheated grill. Remove when golden brown, after about 5 minutes. Put some honey or cinnamon on it if you want.

3. Pineapple Grilled pineapple reduces the acidity of the fruit and makes it a tasty treat. Cut your pineapple into wedges or rings and place it on the grill for about 3 minutes per side.

4. Asparagus Lightly grilled asparagus tossed in a little olive oil, salt and pepper makes for an incredibly easy and nutritious summer dish. Put them on the grill at high heat for 2 to 3 minutes.

5. Tempeh
Vegetarians, take note! Leave the processed veggie burgers in the freezer and go for tempeh instead. Heat the grill to medium, place the tempeh directly on the grill for about 10 minutes, turning once or more, until browned.

6. Tomatoes Add a smoky flavor to a summer salad by grilling tomatoes over high heat. Cut the tomatoes in half, brush with olive oil and place on a grill for about 3 minutes.

7. Portobello mushrooms
Forget your usual hamburger and opt for portobello mushrooms instead. Portobellos have a meaty texture that is perfect for the grill. Brush them lightly with olive oil, put them on the grill for 4 minutes and turn them over for another 4 minutes.

8. Zucchini Zucchini is tasty and easy to grill. Cut lengthwise, coat lightly with olive oil and a sprinkle of salt and pepper, and place on the grill for about a minute or until tender.

9. Carrots
Roasted carrots are also delicious in summer! Peel them and place them on the grill instead of the oven. Grill in a perforated grill pan over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.

10. Romaine lettuce
Grilled lettuce? Yes! Romaine from the barbecue gives the salad a unique smoky taste. Heat the grill to medium high, put some olive oil on it, and grill the lettuce. Turn it often until you see spots (about 2 minutes).

11. Corn on the cob
You can grill the corn on the cob in their husks or brush them with olive oil and put them directly on the grill. Either way, grilling corn is delicious.

12. Sweet potatoes If you thought sweet potatoes were just for the winter, you're wrong. Give them a summery twist by putting them on the grill.
