The Kraken, the 'dark spiced rum' from the Caribbean, is finally available in the Netherlands.
The Kraken rum is a dark premium spiced rum. A delicious drink with a secret recipe full of exotic spices, of which cinnamon, ginger and of course cloves are an important part. After aging for one to two years in oak, a rum full of rich aromas of coffee, caramel, vanilla and spices is the special end result. A drink with a powerful, intense taste and a long, soft and sweet aftertaste.
The Kraken, the most dangerous of all sea monsters, according to legend, is millions of years old and lives more than three thousand meters deep in the ocean. On the rare occasions that he has surfaced, he destroyed entire ships by wrapping his giant tentacles around them and dragging them to the bottom of the ocean. The connection between the legendary sea monster and rum came about when a ship loaded to the rafters with Caribbean rum suddenly disappeared halfway through her journey to Europe. It was a calm sea, there was nothing in the air, but the ship disappeared without a trace, as if swallowed by the earth – or in this case the sea. Or was it something monstrous, something huge? We'll never know:An encounter with the Kraken has no survivors. There were barrels of rum floating in the water here and there. As a peace offering, a sign of respect for the monster's power, the black spiced rum was subsequently named after him. So is the 'dark spiced rum', named after the monster.
